You can have the best content in the world, but if Google can't crawl, understand and load your website quickly, nobody will see it. That's what technical SEO fixes: the infrastructure that decides whether Google ranks you or ignores you.
What is technical SEO
Technical SEO is everything that makes your website crawlable, understandable and fast for Google. It's not content or keywords: it's the engineering behind the page. It's the difference between a website that appears on Google and one that only exists in the browser of whoever pays for it.
The checklist we use in every audit
1. Speed: the Core Web Vitals
Google uses three real-experience metrics as a ranking factor:
- ●LCP (Largest Contentful Paint): how fast the main content loads. Target: under 2.5 seconds.
- ●INP (Interaction to Next Paint): how fast the page responds to interaction. Target: under 200 ms.
- ●CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift): how much the layout shifts while loading. Target: under 0.1.
2. Mobile-first
Google indexes your mobile version. If your website isn't perfect on a phone, it's as if it didn't exist for a huge share of your traffic.
3. Indexing and canonicals
- ●Canonical: one official URL per page to avoid duplicate content.
- ●hreflang: for multilingual sites (es/en), tells Google which version to show based on the user's country or language.
- ●robots.txt and noindex: controls what Google should index and what it shouldn't (thank-you pages, internals).
- ●Updated sitemap: the map that tells Google all your URLs.
4. Structured data (Schema.org)
The code that turns your results into "rich snippets": stars, prices, FAQs. More visibility and clicks on the results page.
5. Security
HTTPS is mandatory (no exceptions), and an architecture without vulnerable plugins reduces downtime and penalties.
6. Images and fonts
Images in modern formats (WebP/AVIF), with correct dimensions and lazy loading. Fonts that don't block rendering. This is usually half the speed points lost.
How to measure your technical SEO
- ●PageSpeed Insights: lab metrics and real user data in a single tool.
- ●Google Search Console: crawl errors, index coverage and Core Web Vitals issues for your site.
- ●Lighthouse: a technical audit of one page in minutes, with performance, accessibility and best-practices scores.
The right order for an audit
- ●Measure with PageSpeed Insights and Search Console.
- ●Prioritize speed (Core Web Vitals): it's the biggest, most measurable impact.
- ●Review indexing: canonicals, hreflang, sitemap and robots.
- ●Add structured data on key pages.
- ●Monitor monthly in Search Console so you don't lose rankings.
